Welcome to 5th Grade Orchestra!

Spring Week 1: Students will review bow hold and instrument posture. Students will learn how to count and perform 8th notes. Students will be able to identify and perform "Down Bow", "Up Bow", and "Bow Lift". Students will learn about Tempo and be able to define "Allegro", "Moderato", and "Andante".  

Week 2: Students will review bow directions, tempo markings, and 8th note rhythms. Students will learn how to count and perform half notes. Students will learn how to perform Left Hand Pizzicato. 

Week 3: Students will review half note and 8th note rhythms. Students will begin playing music with a melody and harmony. Students will learn about Beethoven. 

Week 4: Students will continue applying half note and 8th notes counting to new music. Students will continue learning melody and harmony lines. 

Week 5: Students will be able to identify and perform melody and harmony lines in a piece of music. 

Week 6: Students will learn notes on the G String (G, A, B, and C natural).

 

Week 7: Students will review G String Notes. Students will learn "Grasshopper Polka" to enforce G String note reading and promote finger dexterity. 

Week 8: Students will learn how to count in 3/4 time. Students will be able to identify a D Major Scale within a piece of music.

 

Week 9: Students will be able to define, identify (aurally and visually), and perform a "slur" and a "tie".  

Week 10: Students will be able to identify a "sharp sign" and a "natural sign". Students will learn how to play F natural and C natural. 

Week 11: Review Week 

Week 12: Viola & Cello students will learn notes on the C String (C, D, E, F natural).
